Julie Tolan, Vice President, University AdvancementJulie Tolan is vice president for university advancement at Marquette University. Reporting to the senior vice president, she leads the university’s efforts to increase alumni engagement and expand fund raising support.  Under her leadership Marquette has raised more than $100 million in 2007 and 2008 and increased alumni engagement contributing to a stronger culture of philanthropy.  Tolan also oversaw the Magis Campaign which, at its conclusion in 2005, had raised nearly $357 million from more than 57,000 donors.

Tolan began her Marquette career in 1990 and has served in several capacities, including assistant vice president for university advancement, campaign director, director of corporate and foundation relations, senior advancement officer and project manager for the Les Aspin Center for Government. From 1999 to 2002, Tolan was president of the United Performing Arts Fund in Milwaukee, the nation's largest united arts fund at that time, and headed three annual campaigns, raising more than $30 million for its 20 member groups.

She earned a bachelor's degree in English and a minor in economics from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and a master of management degree from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., where she also received the Dean's Distinguished Service Award. Tolan was named a “Woman of Influence” by The Business Journal of Greater Milwaukee in 2006 and was recognized as one of Milwaukee’s “Forty Under 40” in 2000.  She is a member of Professional Dimensions and is an active community volunteer, serving on the boards of the United Performing Arts Fund, Nativity Jesuit Middle School, the Bridge Committee for the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts, and the Basilica of St. Josaphat.
