Marquette University ranks 77th among the top national universities in the 2009 edition of America's Best Colleges, released by U.S. News & World Report. Marquette was listed among the 262 U.S. universities that offer undergraduate majors as well as master's and doctoral degrees. Marquette was once again one of only 25 schools recognized for service learning under “Programs to Look For.” Service learning programs involve volunteer work in the community as an instructional strategy, enriching the classroom experience. In addition, the magazine listed Marquette as one of its "A+ options for B students."
Marquette's graduate programs have also received top scores from U.S. News & World Report:
Marquette ranks 48th in the nation in Washington Monthly magazine’s annual college guide. The magazine rates individual schools based on their tangible contributions to the public interest — the degree to which they recruit and graduate low-income students; produce PhDs and research; and encourage students to serve in ROTC, the Peace Corps and other service programs.
Marquette has also been named in The Princeton Review’s annual publication “Best 368 Colleges.” Only 15 percent of the four-year colleges in America and two Canadian colleges were chosen for the book. In its profile on Marquette, The Princeton Review described classes as challenging.
Students surveyed praised Marquette for being “a small campus in a big city with a big heart,” and having a “comfortable atmosphere.” Students also felt Marquette provides a well-balanced experience, “a happy medium between working hard academically, making great friends while having a good social life, and getting prepared for life after college.”
