Dear Marquette Students,

Happy week two of the fall semester.

I feel like I’ve already met a large number of you — not just the Class of 2018 at New Student Convocation but also our transfer students, our newest School of Dentistry class during the White Coat Ceremony and everyone who turned out last week at the Residence Hall Association's aMUzing Race.

I've been impressed by the number of runners who have turned out for my new running group — especially the early risers last Friday. There's always room for more, and we'll continue to meet twice weekly, 11:45 a.m. on Tuesdays and 8 a.m. on Fridays starting outside St. Joan of Arc Chapel. You should also consider signing up for Al's Run on September 13. An additional incentive for Marquette students to participate is that those of you who beat my time win a special "I Leveled Lovell" T-shirt, courtesy of MUSG.

Event organizers have told me all 500 free gold inauguration T-shirts for students have been given away, but there are still many other Inauguration events with students in mind scheduled from September 13–21. Among the excellent prizes to be given away at Glow BINGO at 9 p.m. September 17 on Central Mall are men’s basketball season tickets.

Speaking of sports, both of our Golden Eagles soccer teams have extended homestands during September. All you need for entry is your student ID. I hope to see you at one or more of the matches. I'll be at as many as I can.

One last item is that the Office of the President, in cooperation with the Division of Student Affairs, is working to set up small group lunches for you to meet with me. We're going to be pretty wide open with potential conversation topics, but there will be a process setup. Watch for a future announcement.
