Cynthia M. Bauer, Vice President & General Counsel Cynthia Bauer, Arts '79, Law '83, is the vice president and general counsel of Marquette University.

Bauer is responsible for the handling and oversight of all legal matters relating to the university and has supervisory responsibility for Human Resources, Risk Management, Internal Audit and Environmental Health and Safety.

Bauer joined Marquette in 1991 as associate general counsel, was promoted to general counsel in 1994, and was appointed vice president in 1998. She was elected assistant secretary of the Marquette University Board of Trustees in 2003 after serving as secretary from 2000 to 2003.  She has also served as assistant treasurer since 2007.

A double Marquette alumna, she earned her bachelor's degree summa cum laude in 1979 and her law degree cum laude in 1983. Prior to joining Marquette, Bauer practiced civil litigation at two Milwaukee law firms.
