Ned W. Bechthold, P.E., was elected to the Marquette University Board of Trustees in 1997 and served as vice chair from 2008 to 2011.

He is chairman of Payne & Dolan, Inc., in Waukesha, Wis. He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin in 1959.

His list of honors includes University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Engineering Distinguished Service Award, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee Most Valuable Person Award, COA (Children’s Outing Association) Parents of the Year, a recipient of the Milwaukee Foundation Frank Kirkpatrick Award, and 1998 Distinguished Citizen for the Potawatomi Area and Milwaukee County Councils Boy Scouts of America.  Ned and his wife, Helen, were the recipients of the Marquette University Friends of the University Award in 2007 for service by non-alumni.  Ned received an honorary degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 2010.

He serves on the board of the Bradley Center Sports and Entertainment Corporation. 

He is a member of the Marquette University Archbishop Henni Society.
