Service from Kentucky to Cape Town

Born and raised in Milwaukee, Conor Sweeney, Arts '07, never thought he would see the world by attending Marquette University. But a Raynor Scholarship enabled him to do just that.

Thanks to the financial support, Sweeney was able to spend breaks between semesters visiting places like South Africa and China and volunteering his time on trips to Jamaica, Kenya and Kentucky. The challenge of accepting a scholarship, he says, was knowing that someone made an investment in him as a Marquette student.

"The Raynor Scholarship is both an opportunity and a challenge," admits Sweeney. "I have often been told that much is expected of those who are given much. With this scholarship, I have been given an incredible gift and I intend to show my appreciation through action."
