ABROAD PROGRAMS
Business European Travel Program — Belgium
The program gives students an opportunity to study economic integration in the context of the European Common Market. In addition to the seminars taught in English by University of Antwerp faculty, the program includes presentations by experts in business, industry and the Common Market.
Program type

Duration and dates
May 22–June 11, 2011
The program includes an open four-day weekend. No classes are tentatively scheduled from June 2-6, and students are free to travel on their own during this break. In past years, studentshave traveled to Paris, London, Cologne, Rome, Munich, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Zurich and Madrid.
Lectures and topics:
Classes and/or corporate visits occur daily from approximately 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- The sociopolitical situation in the European Union
- A historical perspective on European integration
- Fiscal policy
- How should American companies approach the European market?
- Marketing strategies with respect to the European Union
- A comparison between European and American management styles
- The impact of the single market on corporate strategy
- Enlargement of the EU
In addition, students should expect to visit the following:
- European Commission (Brussels)
- European Parliament (Brussels)
- Ford Motor Co.
- Paris
- Kim's Chocolates
- Brugge, lace capital of the world
- Ghent, a medieval city
- Amsterdam
- KBC (bank)
A syllabus and program schedule are available upon request.
Class and credit info:
- Three upper-division business elective credits
(undergraduate students) - These credits are earned directly from Marquette's
College of Business Administration, which is accredited by the
AACSB.
- There are approximately 50-60 hours of classroom experience in the course.

Eligibility
- at least sophomore standing
- must be majoring in a field of business
- 2.5 cumulative GPA
- Students on academic or university probation are not eligible
