About San Sebastian

Located only 25 km away from the French border, San Sebastián has a French feel in the design of its streets and buildings, particularly in the city's Romantic district. If you walk through the Plaza de Gipuzcoa, along Calle Prim with its surprising modernist houses, or the block made up of the Victoria Eugenia Theater and the María Cristina Hotel, you are taken back in time to the late nineteenth-century Paris.

The city center stretches along the La Concha Bay, a stunningly beautiful sight. During the warm spring and summer days this beach area, one of the nicest in Spain, is a favorite destination for locals and tourists who want to relax and enjoy the sun. Overlooking the bay to each side are two mountains, both of which provide excellent views of the city and the bay.

San Sebastián is an ideal destination for the visitor who wants to experience a slightly different part of Spain from the rest of the country. You will enjoy the friendly, intimate way of life this provincial capital offers, yet the wealth of cultural activities normally associated with the larger Spanish cities is still at your fingertips.

Over one-third of San Sebastián residents speak Euskera (Basque), one of the two official languages of Euskadi (the Basque Country) whose origin is unknown.  The other language in Euskadi is Castellano (Castilian Spanish). For this reason nearly all signs in the Basque Country are in both languages.

About Bilbao

Bilbao is a thriving metropolis, with a population of more than a million people. It is the driving force of social and economic development, and it constitutes the principal factor in the modernization of the Gulf of Biscay.

Situated in the territory of Biscay, the city is surrounded by rich landscapes - forests, mountains, beaches, and steep coasts - which make Bilbao a privileged destination for any traveler. The modern network of transport and roads brings the nearby Basque capitals like Vitoria and San Sebastian much closer.

Bilbao's cultural calendar is hard to resist, having two of the best art galleries in Spain, six theme museums, and innumerable contemporary art exhibitions. It also holds a continuous series of shows and performances of opera, symphony orchestras, theatre, dance, cinema, easy listening, pop, and rock 'n roll.
