Sonderborg Program Overview

DenmarkThe University of Southern Denmark, founded as a merger of four Danish universities in 1998, is widely concerned with research, with approximately 1,100 researchers engaged in a search for new knowledge on its campus. It also caters to students, with 15,000 students building on their education between its four campuses.

The University of Southern Denmark offers comprehensive programs in four different faculties – Humanities, Science and Engineering, Social Sciences, and Health Sciences.  It incorporates 32 institutes, 11 research centers, and a well-equipped university library.  On the Sønderborg campus it offers a number of programs combining languages and economics plus a variety of engineering studies.

The Sonderborg campus, where Marquette students study, is a small campus with about 700 students giving it a personal, friendly atmosphere. There are three faculties that offer a varied number of disciplines in the fields of Science and Engineering, Social Sciences, Management and Humanities.

The University of Southern Denmark offers the following facilities to students in its Sonderborg campus

  • Bookshop: Students can buy all the Danish and foreign literature needed for classes on campus.

  • Cafeteria: open only during the daytime and offers selection of sandwiches, salads and drinks. The cafeteria also serves a hot meal Monday through Wednesday.

  • Library and computer facilities: The university offers has extensive library and computer facilities. Computers have software in both Danish and English, and usernames for Internet access are assigned to all students at the IT deparment.

  • Student Café: This café is organized by students and it is open every Friday from 12:00pm

Program Type:

Living:

Upon arrival, you will be placed with a Danish family for about one week.  After that, you will move to a self-contained apartment or other private accommodations. 

Danish educational institutions have no accommodation facilities, and foreign students have to make their own arrangements with regard to board and lodging. There are, however, a number of student residence halls administered by student organizations, and foreign students are eligible for rooms on equal terms with Danish students in these halls. The residences are approximately 1.5 km from the university and offer six-month tenancy agreements.

Fall Term: Late August to mid December
Spring Term: Late January to mid June

Business Majors or Minors Only; Junior standing

Language:

Courses taught in English

Permit/Visa:

Visa required (Need to apply 2 months in advance)

Orientation:

There is an extensive orientation program at the beginning of each semester followed by an excursion program, usually to an eastern European country.
