Who can study there?
Marquette Business and Economics students with Junior standing may study through this program.
What are the programs dates?
The fall term is from late September until mid-January, while the spring term is from early February till late June.
Do I need to know a foreign language?
Courses are taught in English, but the national languages are Flemish and French. There are also some German-speaking regions.
Will my financial aid transfer?
Because this is a Marquette-exchange program, most financial aid generally applies. To learn more about how this program will affect your specific financial aid package, please see the Office of Student Financial Aid.
Do I need a visa? How do I get a visa?
Yes, you need to apply at least two months in advance for your
visa.
Do I need vaccinations before I travel?
No special vaccinations are required. Visit the Center for Disease
Control's Traveler's Health Web site for
additional vaccination information.

Who will my classmates be?
Your classmates will be from Belgium, other European countries and the rest of the world.
How many classes are taken per semester, on average?
On average five classes are taken per semester.
How many credits can I earn?
On average 15 credits are taken per semester.
What subjects are offered?
Business Administration, Management, East European Studies, Economics, Finance, Information Systems, International Business, Marketing and Statistics are a few. A complete list of classes will be available when you apply.
Will my grades transfer? What are passing grades?
Grades do not transfer back to Marquette, only credits. Your credits
will only transfer if your grades meet the passing level, which is
11 points or more on a 20-point scale.
Where will I live?
Many students lease rooms, flats, studio-flats, etc. in all price
ranges. The housing service will help you find accommodations to
suit your needs, assuming you contact them well in advance.
Is there an orientation?
Yes, the day before classes begin, the International Relations
Office hosts a welcome orientation for new students, including campus
tours. You will receive more info prior to departure.

What is public transportation like?
Antwerp has a large and good network of buses, trams and underground stations. A ticket costs 1 euro and you can travel for an hour, even if you jump over for a different line. Taxis are quite expensive.
How do I get around?
Belgium is ideally located for travel in Europe, practically next door to Paris, London, and Amsterdam. You are free to travel as time permits. Within the city, bicycles are the most popular way to get around, but be sure to lock your bike at stops. Furthermore, Belgium has the densest train network in the world.
What is the weather like?
Despite its northern latitude, the North Sea keeps Belgium at a warm temperature for most of the year. Summertime temperatures average between 54° and 72° F, and between 32° and 43° F during the winter. Of course, the weather in Belgium can also change quickly. Rain and drizzle can set in at any time, but are especially common during the months of April and November.
What is the cost of living compared to the United States?
The Euro is the only acceptable currency in Belgium. As of June
2005, the exchange rate is 1.00 USD for 0.83 Euros. In 2005, the estimated
living expenses for a year, less tuition, were about 6,950 euros. A
typical dinner out will cost 8.5 euros.
How can I find out more about the city?
Culturally speaking, Antwerp is the most important city in the Flemish region. The people are known for their openness and world sense. Visiting medieval cities, quaint towns, Gothic cathedrals, castles and carillons provides a taste of culture. Watching the world go by from a bar terrace is a favorite pastime. Antwerp is said to be the liveliest, most extraverted city of the north, and visitors feel right at home. Visit Fodor's online guide for more information.
