John Cabot University is an American institution of higher education in Rome. It was founded in 1972 as a college of liberal arts and sciences associated with Hiram College of Ohio. In 1998 it became an accredited independent university with American roots and international character. The university is located near the famous St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican in what is known as Trastevere quarter. It also has a fine arts annex on the other side of the Tiber River.
Degree Programs
John Cabot University offers degrees in Art History,
English Literature, Humanistic Studies, International Affairs, Italian
Studies, and Political Science. It also offers a degree in Business
Administration by providing a variety of courses in Marketing, Management,
Economics, Accounting, Finance, Business Law, and Computer Science.
Students can take classes from any of these areas.
Student Life & Resources
Students who want to be involved in extracurricular activities
are welcome to participate in the different student activities available.
Such activities include the student newspaper, the yearbook, athletic
activities (i.e. soccer, basketball, etc.), and access to a gym and
a pool. There are also musical and dramatic productions put on
by the University Theater Group.
In
addition, the Student Government organizes a variety of cultural
and social events open to all the students. Examples of such activities
are barbecues, jazz performances, and luncheons with distinguished
figures of the political and business world. Moreover, since traveling
is an integral part of the study abroad experience, each term there
are trips organized to other cities in Italy such as Siena and Pisa.
John Cabot University offers its students the following resources:
- Frohring Library – access to one of the best English Language collections in Rome. It houses 20,000 items in its collections including monographs, journals, newspapers, videos, and DVDs.
- Computer Laboratories – Various labs where students can work on assignments or access the Internet.
- Secchia Public Affairs and Communication Center – Provides an open air setting for events and seminars on current affairs and international issues.
Program Type:
This program is a Marquette-affiliated
program. As such, federal financial aid applies; Marquette grants
and scholarships do not apply.
Living:
John Cabot University does not have residence halls or dormitories of its own. However, the JCU Housing Office guarantees affordable, adequate, and secure accommodations for study abroad students within a reasonable distance from the university (Trastevere or Centro Storico). Duration:
