Marquette Hall
Accreditation at Marquette University

Marquette University is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA), one of six regional institutional accrediting bodies in the United States. The Higher Learning Commission (HLC), one of two NCA commission members, accredits post-secondary educational institutions in the region.

Marquette went through its last accreditation reaffirmation process in 2003-04 and is scheduled again in 2013-14. The reaffirmation process is an opportunity for Marquette to document the excellent work we do as a university and provides assurance that we are meeting and exceeding the expectations of various constituencies. The reaffirmation process also provides the chance to reflect on the work and identify both strengths and opportunities for improvement. A steering committee that includes 17 members of the Marquette community will provide overall direction and leadership for the reaffirmation process that has been themed: Reflect - Affirm - Inspire.

An integral part of the reaffirmation process is the development of a self-study in which evidenced-based documentation is used to state Marquette's case for ongoing accreditation. Upon completion, the self-study will be submitted to a team of peer reviewers, comprised of faculty and administrators from other universities, approximately two months prior to their onsite visit. The peer review team will carefully read this document in preparation for a visit that will take place fall 2013 or spring 2014.

The self-study includes a section dedicated to each of five core criteria (1) Mission (2) Integrity – Ethical and Responsible Conduct (3) Teaching and Learning Quality, Resources, and Support (4) Teaching and Learning Evaluation and Improvement (5) Resources, Planning, and Institutional Effectiveness as well as a section dedicated to federal compliance. Subcommittees with about 15 individuals from across campus will take primary responsibility for managing each of these six areas. Additional subcommittees will provide support to the initiative.
