THOMAS J. "TOBY" PETERS, Ph.D.

Dr. Peters is the Associate Vice President for Administration at Marquette University, assuming that role in 2000. In this position, Dr. Peters assists the Vice President in the oversight responsibilities of the Alumni Memorial Union, Book Marq (Follett College Stores), Auxiliary Enterprises, Facilities Services, Information Technology Services, Public Safety, and University Dining Services.

In addition to his duties as Associate Vice President, Dr. Peters has taught an Organizational Behavior Course to upper level graduates as an Adjunct Professor in Marquette’s College of Business Administration since the fall 2002 semester.

Prior to his duties as Associate Vice President for Administration, Dr. Peters served as the Director of Marquette’s Alumni Memorial Union and Auxiliary Services. In this role, Dr. Peters provided direct supervision of the Alumni Memorial Union program, which involves managing Marquette University's student union, and the satellite operation, the Union Sports Annex.

Before joining Marquette, Dr. Peters served as the Director for the Office of Student Centers and Activities at Syracuse University. In this role, Dr. Peters was responsible for the Student Centers and Activities program, which involves managing Syracuse University's two student unions, the Schine and Goldstein Student Centers, and advising student groups on campus student activity programming.

Dr. Peters has consulted on a variety of topics including: assessment, construction, organization structure and review, and food services at the following higher education institutions:

  • Arizona State University
  • Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia
  • Loyola University, New Orleans, Louisiana
  • Springfield College, Springfield, Massachusetts
  • University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana

In addition, he has presented and published on topics including Transactional and Transformational Leadership, Construction and Renovation, UBIT and Unfair Competition, Student Retention, Student Employment, Student Development, Assessment, Volunteerism and Diversity Training.

Dr. Peters received a Doctorate in Education Policy and Leadership from Marquette University and a Masters of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.
