Distinguished Alumna of the Year Award

Katherine J. SullivanDR. KATHERINE J. SULLIVAN, PT '78
Pasadena, Calif.

The human brain is a vast, mysterious landscape. So mysterious that it drew the attention of Kathy, whose early career in rehabilitation for adults or children with brain injuries led to her post-doctoral studies in neuroscience. These days, she shepherds others toward careers in neuroscience as an associate professor in the Division of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy at the Ostrow School of Dentistry at the University of Southern California and advocates for the needs of people with disabilities.

 

Service to Marquette Award

Pamela Suplicki BrilowskiPAMELA SUPLICKI BRILOWSKI, DENT HY '84
Waukesha, Wis.

Pam knows how inspiring a good coach can be. She played on the women's basketball team while at Marquette and today coaches kids in dental hygiene as program director for Waukesha County Technical College. Other recipients of her coaching: the College of Health Sciences Alumni Association, including a stint as president in 2008, and the American Dental Hygienists' Association and American Dental Education Association.

 

A Person for Others Award

Susan Schober KinosianSUSAN SCHOBER KINOSIAN, PT '72
Wauwatosa, Wis.

In 1982, Susan founded New Berlin Therapies, SC, which provides family-centered adult and pediatric rehabilitation services. To further positively impact the lives of people with special health care needs and their families, she founded Team Up! With Families in 1991. In 1998, she saw a need for high-quality inclusive child care and established Stepping Stones Child Development Center.

 

Young Alumna of the Year Award

Dr. Ashley Carson FerraroDR. ASHLEY CARSON FERRARO, MED TECH '95
Kansas City, Mo.

It is in the waiting room of a doctor’s office — where one finds much diversity — that Ashley finds peace. She has treated the ethnically, racially, linguistically and religiously diverse as an internist and currently is a fellow in pulmonary/critical care at Louisiana State University–Shreveport.
