Anne
Garcia Mccullough, Arts '90
Two
years ago Anne Garcia McCullough was diagnosed with multiple
sclerosis, a neuromuscular disease that left her partially paralyzed
and visually impaired. Assisted by loving family and friends
and leaning on her faith, Anne rose above physical hardship to
become a nationally known motivational speaker and consultant.
She says her formula for success is based on perseverance, patience
and determination. She credits her undergraduate experience — and especially her Marquette
mentor, Rev. Walter Stohrer, S.J., with helping her to understand her special
calling to serve God and others.
After graduating from Marquette with a degree in philosophy
and history, Anne earned a juris doctor from William Mitchell
College of Law. She practiced as a legal technology expert and
trial consultant and taught continuing education seminars sponsored
by the Minnesota State Bar. Anne traded the high profile career
of an attorney for the more fulfilling role of mother following
the birth of her daughter, Martha, now 6, and son, Patrick, now
3.
Even today, with a growing schedule of motivational speaking
engagements, Anne combines her commitment to her family life
with service to the community as a member of the National MS
Society, Elizabeth Ministry and Mothers Uplifting Mothers Spiritually.
She also is a volunteer coordinator for the MS Walk and coordinator
and team captain for the Light the Night Walk for Leukemia and
Lymphoma, both in her hometown.
