Carole Case DeRoche, Med Tech ’65, Grad ’87

Carole Case DeRoche

Carole DeRoche’s degree in medical technology was the springboard to a long and varied career in the laboratory, classroom and business world. She recently retired after nearly 20 years at Schwarz Pharma Inc., where she was vice president of marketing and a member of the executive management team.

“Marquette provided an education that I could apply to many different professional settings,” she says. “In my case, Marquette also provided opportunities to develop professionally through employment. As an undergraduate student, I was also very fortunate to be involved in many activities that helped me to learn many important skills related to teamwork and service.”

She continued her education with graduate work at Marquette and the Medical College of Wisconsin and earned a master’s degree in educational administration from Marquette in 1987. She taught in Marquette’s Medical Technology department for six years, as well as the Medical Assistant program at Concordia College.

Her personal formula for success: “Build on a solid education and continue to learn every day. Learn from one’s mistakes: Acknowledge them, correct them and move forward. Participate very actively in achieving the objectives of the organization.”

That’s just what she did during her tenure at Schwarz Pharma Inc., where she led multidisciplinary teams to evaluate product quality complaint processing, improve corporate learning and development opportunities, and streamline several processes to improve work efficiency. A member of the Drug Information Association and the Medical and Healthcare Communication and Marketing Association, she still works as a pharmaceutical consultant.

She and her husband, Bob, have three children.
