Capt. Steven A. Dezell, USAF, BSC, H Sci ’99

Steven Dezell

Consider this resume:

• Graduated third in his high school class

• The first in his family to graduate from college

• Selected for the Guam U19 World Cup Soccer Team

• General medical technologist for the third largest provider of clinical laboratory services in North America

• Member of the U.S. Army Reserves

• Member of a U.S. Air Force clinical lab team for five months in Iraq

• Recipient of three awards for distinguished hospital laboratory service and management both in Iraq and the Air Force

• Earned two group awards, including a Marine Corps Commandant Commendation for outstanding support during the 2004 Fallujah campaign

• Currently serving as Clinical Laboratory Flight Commander for the 23rd Medical Group, stationed in Moody, Ga.

Now, consider that all this has been accomplished by a Marquette alumnus who graduated only eight years ago.

Yet, this resume is still incomplete. Capt. Steven Dezell is also compelled to serve others, having helped raise $110,000 for humanitarian relief in Ghana, participated in the Marines’ Toys for Tots campaign and cleaned homeless shelters while stationed in Ohio.

Steven simply explains, “Serving my country and the world, whether I am collecting blood from Vietnam veterans, transfusing units to injured service members or training Iraqi laboratory technicians, I couldn’t be more satisfied with what I do.”
