Thomas A. Kramer, Arts ’82

Thomas Kramer

Tom Kramer puts a new twist on mature business processes to help businesses progress and evolve.

He was the founder and CEO of LightPoint Capital Management, an alternative investment management firm. Under his guidance the firm grew into an international asset management operation with offices in Chicago and London and assets in excess of $3.4 billion before he sold LightPoint to Lehman Brothers Asset Management in July 2007.

Now with Lehman Brothers as managing director and co-head of leveraged asset management, Tom oversees the combined leveraged loan and high-yield bond operation within the asset management platform.

Tom believes a key to his success is rooted in his liberal arts education at Marquette. “An educational framework that stresses strong writing and speaking skill, creativity and independent thought is fundamental, in my mind, to being successful in the business community,” he says.

He hopes to help other Marquette students achieve similar success through his involvement in the College of Business Administration’s Applied Investment Management (AIM) program, and has offered students internships and post-graduation opportunities at LightPoint.
