After earning his degree from Marquette University Law School, Eric A. Montgomery began a legal career focused on employment law. He joined the law firm of Plunkett & Cooney P.C. in Detroit as an associate in the employment law section.
Next, he served as corporate counsel with the Flagstar Corp. in Spartanburg, S.C., handling labor, employment and public accommodations issues. He joined SCANA Services Inc., Columbia, S.C., in 1995 as assistant general counsel, the sole attorney responsible for labor and employment matters and other general corporate legal issues.
In 2001, Eric joined the legal staff of Bank of America in Charlotte, N.C., as assistant general counsel in the personnel group. He is responsible for handling legal issues in the areas of labor and employment for the following lines of business: transition services, payroll delivery services, corporate diversity, risk operations and strategic planning, equal employment opportunity, consumer bank staffing, community banking and leadership development. He is also vice chair of the legal department diversity business council.
Eric is a member and treasurer of the board of directors for Legal Services of Southern Piedmont and a member of the board for the corporate counsel section of the North Carolina Bar Association.
A native of Charlotte, Eric graduated cum laude from North Carolina Central University, Durham, with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He actively volunteers on behalf of both of his alma maters, serving on the Marquette Law School alumni diversity committee and serving NCCU as president of the Charlotte alumni chapter and member of the executive board of the alumni association. He is a member of the Pi Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
