Amanda Ihle (Speech Pathology and Audiology)

Amanda’s service work has led her to assist everyone from inner-city high school students to adults with physical and mental disabilities. She has given of her time in many ways; from Tuesday Night Mass Choir to Global Rights Activism to the countless hours she has spent volunteering with Speech Pathology & Audiology Fundraisers, Dedications, and Masses. Amanda has even taken an active role in opening the eyes of others to world wide issues, such as World AIDS Day.

“Speech Pathologists must partake in a life of service and dedication as a bridge to future learning of other cultures and reaching out to those who are often overlooked.” Amanda goes on to say, “Excellence requires not settling for the middle ground-it requires going above and beyond by continuously learning and applying.”

  Victoria McDonald (Mechanical Engineering)
Victoria’s college work experience has included being an Engineering Co-Op for New Product Development Engineering for Kohler Co., as well as being a teaching assistant for various General Engineering and Math courses. She co-founded the group, “Engineers Without Borders” helping to maintain and improve the lives of many in less fortunate communities internationally. Victoria has traveled to Guatemala three times in the past three years assessing, constructing, and implementing various tools to alleviate the living situations in rural communities of Guatemala.

“The smiles on children’s faces, laughter in the air, that first drop of running water from the faucet are my motivations and provide the inspiration to continue applying my engineering knowledge. I have learned to follow my passion, be an advocate for change, and be an instrument of faith in order to not passively settle for the status quo.”

Kimberly Stein (Secondary Education, English, and Spanish)
Kimberly facilitated, managed, and overseen Service Learning experiences for a multitude of students, faculty members, and community agencies; helping others to gain the satisfaction that comes with helping people learn. To add to this, Kimberly has utilized her faith and existing teaching skills to educate tenth-grade Religious Education students at St. Dominics Parish in Brookfield, WI. She has developed and increased her leadership skills through involvement with the National Catholic Youth Conference in Atlanta, GA.

“I want to be a woman for others. My Marquette education has given me the faith base to share my Catholic beliefs with Religious Education students and youth from across the country.”

Kristin Michele Flaig (Biomedical Science and Physical Therapy) is a volunteer coach for children's cheerleading and gymnastics. She also volunteers at the Milwaukee Children's Hospital, the Next Door Foundation, and the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation.

“At Marquette, not only have I learned an amazing amount academically that will help me in the future, but I think the most significant things I have learned involved life and happiness. Never did I think that Marquette would help me to gain confidence, come out of my shell, and learn to love myself as is.”

Heather Seubert (College of Nursing) has coordinated the Cobeen Hall Blood Drive and Campus Bone Marrow Drive. She has also volunteered at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Aurora Sinai and tutored at the Milwaukee Academy of the Sciences.

“Though my leadership positions, I have learned the importance of both being an active leader and one through example. I have practiced how to advocate for what I am passionate in and use the resources I have available to be a trail blazer.”

Anna Barreiro (International Business and Marketing) is a resident assistant and former junior high teacher's aid. She participated in Desmond Tutu Tables and the CommUNITY Residence Hall Project for Diversity.

“My Marquette education has proven two important lessons. One is that faith is an irreplaceable armor that will get one through anything. The second is that I am God's instrument. This knowledge will push me to a higher level of leadership, excellence, and service.”

Erica Kowalski (Secondary Ed. and Theology) volunteers as a religious education instructor at Our Lady of Lourdes. She interned for the Christian Leadership Institute and has conducted conflict resolution workshops for youth for the Milw. Archdiocese.

“ Marquette has opened my heart to the mission of faith, service, excellence and leadership. As a Catholic educator it is my mission to create experiences for others to learn from God, the Ultimate Educator.”

Naomi Stieber (English and Criminology and Law Studies) is a member of the Marquette Liturgical Choir. She has lead a Marquette Experience Retreat and volunteered at the Urban Ecology Center, Hope House, The Price Is Right, and Easter Seals.

“Additionally through my various volunteer activities, the idea of Magis has been made very clear to me. It isn't about the number of activities that I participate in, but instead the enthusiasm and commitment involved that make not only the individuals involved more, but myself “more” as well.”

Dawn Renee Konop (College of Nursing) has tutored at the Milwaukee Academy of Sciences. She also volunteered at Columbia St. Mary's, Aurora Health Care, Hope House, and Milwaukee Public Schools.

“I've been taught how to lead through example and serve others with time, respect and support. I want to use my experiences and knowledge from Marquette to help guide others and to therapeutically communicate with them during their time of need.”
