On April 24, 2004, AMUW
recognized the first recipient of the AMUW Faculty Achievement
Award, Dr. Linda K. Vaughn. The AMUW Board of Directors recently
established this award to honor a woman faculty member who has
excelled in her research, teaching, and service to Marquette and
to the community, and who has mentored students and other faculty.
Dr. Vaughn joined the
Marquette faculty in 1979, and in 1997 became chair of the Department
of Biomedical Sciences. She has received many scientific honors
and fellowships, and has published extensively in the United States
and internationally. Marquette has benefited from the research
grants and awards she has brought to the university. Her personal
goal is to provide a critical learning environment for her students
and to help them grow into future leaders in their profession.
She has served as an excellent mentor to fellow faculty members,
graduate and undergraduate students.
Dr. Vaughn will again
be honored at the AMUW Annual Meeting in September.
