Ethnic Alumni Association's Ralph H. Metcalfe, Sr. Scholarship Application Form

The intent of the scholarship is to provide two Marquette students of color a gift of $1000.00 each for the next academic year. The scholarship is designed to aid students of color who demonstrate financial need. One scholarship will be awarded to an Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) student and one to a non-EOP student.

Candidates must complete the enclosed scholarship application. Eligible candidates must:

  • Be Black, American Indian/Alaskan Native, Hispanic or Asian.

  • Be currently enrolled at Marquette University and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 (on a scale of 4.0). This can be a renewable scholarship.

  • Submit the online application and essay no later than
    Friday, February 15, 2008
    . (No late applications will be accepted)
The Ethnic Alumni Association selection committee, in conjunction with the Office of Student Financial Aid, will administer this scholarship. The recipient will be notified shortly after the end of the academic year.

Once you submit this form, the following information should follow in an e-mail:

  • College Work Experience - Briefly list places of employment during college (include summer jobs).

  • Volunteer Experience - List Marquette University/community volunteer activities you have participated in. For each project, list the year and approximate number of participation hours per week. Please indicate if this was Service Learning.

  • Brief statement - indicating why this scholarship would be beneficial to you.

  • Essay - Type an essay, not to exceed 200 words, describing, “How would you utilize your Marquette education, experiences and values to improve the economic, social and educational conditions in the minority community? (Essays exceeding 200 words will be disqualified). Please send this essay in an e-mail after submitting this application form.

  • Letter of recommendation – Include one letter of recommendation from an instructor, work supervisor or volunteer supervisor.
