Marquette kicks off its Centennial Celebration of Women
In 1909, Father James McCabe made a pioneering decision to admit women alongside men in the bachelor of arts program at Marquette University, becoming the first Catholic university in the world to do so. We invite you to join us in commemorating this milestone during our Centennial Celebration of Women at Marquette!

Marquette University partners with Boys & Girls Clubs of America
Marquette is teaming up with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, one of the nation’s largest youth development organizations, to provide three full-tuition scholarships annually to winners of BGCA’s Youth of the Year program. Each scholarship, renewable for four years, is valued at more than $110,000. Read more. |

- Newest residence hall opens
McCabe Hall, a renovation of the former Marquette Apartments at 1628 W. Wisconsin Ave., will open for more than 200 sophomores this month. The residence hall is named in honor of James McCabe, S.J., whose leadership led Marquette to become the first Catholic university in the world to offer coeducation as part of its regular undergraduate program. - Marquette named one of Princeton Review’s "Best 371 Colleges"
In its annual guidebook for 2010, The Princeton Review again named Marquette University one of its "Best 371 Colleges." Based on institutional data, student surveys and Princeton Review staff visits, the ranking places Marquette among about 15 percent of the nation’s 2,500 four-year colleges.
- Alumna honored for high CPA exam score
More than 85,000 people took the CPA exam last year, and Jennifer Luchs, Bus Ad ’08, was among the top 10 in the country. Luchs was recently honored by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants with its Elijah Watt Sells Award, given annually to the top performers on the exam. Read more

A team of three professors in Marquette’s College of Health Sciences received a two-year, $1.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to study and develop novel compounds for the treatment of cocaine addiction. The grant, which was part of the federal stimulus act, was publicized in local media, the Chicago Tribune and on at least 49 other Web sites. Jodi Wagner, Bus Ad '99, married Tom Drake on July 8, 2009, in a private ceremony on the Hawaiian island of Maui. The couple lives in San Francisco. Full Note
Robert Falardeau, Arts '76, was promoted on June 2, 2009, to fire chief of the Village of Palatine (Ill.) Fire Department. Falardeau is a 29-year veteran of the department. Full Note

Cassi Serena, Comm '05, and Nick Dermody, Eng '05, were married June 6, 2009, at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Minneapolis. Full Note
Elizabeth D'Amato, Comm '92, was the digital paint supervisor on the latest Star Trek film. Currently she is working on James Cameron's Avatar, to be released in December of 2009.

Law School offers Healing Circle video
The Restorative Justice Initiative created a first-of-its-kind documentary about the pain caused to victims and the greater church community by the sexual abuse scandal. It is designed to facilitate conversation among parishes, victims' organizations and other faith- or community-based organizations. Read more

M Club Hall of Fame
Join the Marquette faithful as we celebrate the 2009 M Club Hall of Fame induction class.
