Motivational CD honors McGuire, supports youth

As a stand-out high school senior from Chicago’s south side, the All-American player Robert Byrd had his choice of playing the hardwood for universities across the country. But it was Al McGuire who convinced Byrd that his dream to play college basketball could happen as a member of Marquette’s team.

McGuire’s final recruit in 13 seasons at Marquette, Byrd now shares the insights of the legendary coach as told directly from McGuire himself in The Winning Edge Presents Coach Al McGuire. This one-of-a-kind CD provides an insider’s look into the winning philosophies of one of the greatest coaches in college basketball history. Personal reflections by McGuire and narration by Byrd recall that McGuire not only put his heart into developing an NCAA Championship team, but his soul as well.

Proceeds from sales of The Winning Edge Presents Coach Al McGuire will benefit Bridging the Gap, a nonprofit educational program for Milwaukee inner city youth founded by Byrd in 1990.

“The day I met Al McGuire, my life changed forever.”

                                                            - Robert Byrd, Arts ’80
