Habits of Effective Protégés

John Kobara, Executive VP/COO for the California Community Foundation and author of Adopting the Mentoring and Networking Lifestyle, shares his advice for making the most of a mentor relationship by understanding expectations. Below are his tips to becoming an effective protégé:

  • Be proactive – Reach out to your mentor, create an agenda, and develop questions and goals for each meeting.
  • Begin with the end in mind – Ask yourself, what am I aiming for? Reflect on your future goals with your mentor. Discuss your direction and plan for achieving these goals.
