July reflection: Marquette will always be here for you
Reunion WeekendAfter 62 years, my family is selling our summer cottage. We all agree that it is time to let it go, but nonetheless it is sad when one thinks of the seasons and the memories that were generated in that spot. Here is where I learned that three 10 year olds shouldn't ride on one bike (I still have a scar on my knee). Here I learned to water ski, to drive a car, to enjoy a sunrise over the lake. But now it is time to move forward.

As we look to Alumni Reunion Weekend later this month we are reminded of a place where you have many memories. A lot of "firsts" in your life took place on the Marquette campus. Many say this is where they learned to think. Perhaps you met your spouse, developed passionate interests, explored career options or settled on a profession while roaming up and down Wisconsin Avenue.

Familiar places and faces welcome you home to Marquette. Reconnect with your classmates at a few old haunts. Thank God for the past we shared, the good times we had, the challenges presented to us, and the blessings we received.

We thank God for Marquette University, those who taught us and those who influenced us, who helped get us where we are today.

We ask God to continue sending blessings on Marquette that future generations will have the opportunities we have had; the education we've received; the recognition of God’s presence that we share.

Unlike a family cottage, Marquette will always be here for you! Have a safe and enjoyable summer.
