Marquette begins development this summer on 8,000-square-foot space at Global Water Center
Marquette will commence construction on the build-out of its sixth-floor space in the Global Water Center this summer, with an anticipated completion in late 2015. The university will occupy the final remaining space in the 100,000-square-foot, seven-story building, which houses water-related research facilities for universities, existing water-related companies and accelerator space for emerging companies. Recent Marquette University grads staging Shakespeare in 13 state parks this summer
Photo: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
As a group of recent Marquette University graduates and one current student, the Summit Players may be little in budget, but it's fierce in creativity and passion. Kyle Conner has pared down Shakespeare's text to a 75-minute show, with six actors performing all of the parts. They hired veteran Maureen Kilmurry, who has taught or directed most of them, to direct this production. Read the full story from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Marquette Lawyer Magazine: "Much to Preserve - and Much to Change"
What must Catholic K-12 schools in the United States do to reverse declining enrollment?
At 7:40 a.m. each school day, save only when the weather is extreme, the 200 students of
St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic School on Milwaukee’s west side line up outside the school
door, each grade on its assigned painted line. Principal Jeffrey Johnson calls out, "Our help
is in the name of the Lord." The students respond, "Who made Heaven and Earth." Then
they sing a hymn and say the Lord’s Prayer. There is an opportunity for individual prayers.
And then everyone goes into the building. Read more.

June reflection: Say goodbye, then look ahead with hope
May is a busy month on campus. The end of the year events actually start in April and run into June. There are many celebrations to acknowledge the accomplishments of our faculty, staff and alumni -- not the least of which is our commencement celebration. This year's was our largest ever with close to 3,000 graduates.
May was also a sad time to say goodbye to two of our campus Jesuits. Father Roland Teske taught philosophy at Marquette for almost 40 years and was a prolific writer. Having battled cancer for several years he went peacefully to his final reward. Quite unexpectedly that same week, Father Lucas Chan passed away at the age of 46. He had just completed his first year at Marquette and had a bright future ahead of him. He was said to be one of the top five experts in the world in his field, theological ethics. A tragic loss to Marquette and the Jesuit Community. Yet we are called to look ahead.
As summer unfolds around us we move forward with renewed hope and promise for the days to come. We are reminded how precious, how fragile, how fleeting our lives are. Take some time this summer to reflect on what is really important to you. Spend some time with those you enjoy and those you love. Celebrate and acknowledge your accomplishments. And thank God for the many gifts and graces you have received. Have a good summer!

Marquette alumni explore Holland and Belgium together
Twelve Marquette alumni and guests cruised the waterways and canals of Holland and Belgium aboard the MS Amadeus in May. In Belgium, travelers visited the romantic town of Bruges and strolled through Antwerp, one of Europe’s leading art centers. In Holland, they toured Delft, the home of Vermeer and enchanting canal houses. They also visited The Hague, the site of the royal residence and several museums, and the flower fields of the renowned Keukenhof Gardens. The educational component of the trip brought to light the history of the Dutch Masters, the engineering masterpiece of the Delta Works and the current affairs of the Netherlands as a member of the European Union. Sign up now for an upcoming Marquette group trip.
Help the Foley Fund reach its endowed scholarship goal
The James Foley Scholarship Fund, created in honor of alumnus and slain journalist James Foley, is within $5,000 of its goal of $320,000, at which point it will begin supporting Foley Scholars in perpetuity.
