Did you ever wonder who set up the room for your meeting or hung the banner for your event? The Alumni Memorial Union's Building Staff department is not only responsible for those tasks, but many more that help support daily users of the Alumni Memorial Union complex which includes the AMU, Weasler Auditorium, Union Sports Annex, Varsity Theatre and West Towne Mall.
Building Staff works closely with Event Management, Facility Services and Dining Services to ensure spaces are set up according to the requests of the AMU's customers whether it be a meeting for 3-4 people, or a formal event that fills up the entire ballroom. On an average month, they will turn over 1,335 diverse events changing set ups that include moving, placing or storing over 1,600 chairs and 400 tables at any given time.
With a staff made up of both full time employees and student employees, there are members of the Building Staff on hand any time the AMU is open. This can be as early as 6:45 a.m. to as late as midnight seven days a week during the school year covering over 300,000 square feet of space throughout all of the AMU operational locations.
