Access to email and other social networks will become easier in the Alumni Memorial Union this semester. The AMU will begin installing two new computer stations for student use on Wednesday, October 14.
The new computers are being installed in response to increased building traffic and the request of students through Marquette University Student Government. Current MUSG president Henry Thomas and MUSG vice president Stephanie Stopka continued to carry the torch for more computers that former MUSG president Ray Redlingshafer began last year.
According to Todd Vicker, executive director of the AMU, "Our AMU team worked with MUSG to identify the need, the location and the funding." MUSG president Henry Thomas agreed, "Stephanie and I raised the issue of lack of computer access in the AMU with the Office of Administration, IT Services and the AMU Staff. Every person we talked to was not only receptive, but more than happy to make it happen as well. Together we saw a need, and together we made it happen."
The Office of the Vice President of Administration, IT Services and the AMU all shifted funding from this year's budget to install the two stations. Todd Vicker adds, "Henry and Stephanie kept this a priority for students, so I'm glad my colleagues in Administration and I could help get this done."
Neal Wucherer, AMU associate director, will lead the installation efforts.
