This state-of-the-art facility will be a premier destination for elite scientists and scholars who will come from around the globe to research and advance the ever-changing world of athletics. Located on the eastern edge of the Marquette University campus, the center will sit alongside downtown Milwaukee's major freeway interchange.
A unique collaboration between Marquette University and Aurora Health Care, the athletic performance research center will combine indoor playing fields for Marquette’s lacrosse and soccer programs, an indoor track, and a world-class athletic performance research facility led by elite researchers and clinicians from Marquette and Aurora Health Care. It will also create access to recreation and fitness facilities and enhance health and wellness across the region.
In his first Presidential Address in January 2015, Marquette President Michael R. Lovell announced that the university would construct the multipurpose, co-curricular facility with involvement from the Milwaukee Bucks, calling it "a new day at Marquette University.” A year later, President Lovell announced that Aurora Health Care will join Marquette as a lead partner in the venture, creating a one-of-its-kind collaboration among three of Milwaukee's largest and most well-respected institutions.
Central to the project is the ability to catalyze community engagement and create new and enhanced partnerships throughout the region. It will link health care providers and scholars, creating synergies that foster research breakthroughs in physiological and psychological areas of human and health performance.
Emerging fields, including exercise physiology, athletic training, biomedical engineering and nutrition and rehabilitation, will be among the specialty research areas that the center will showcase.
