The Kleczka Internship Program is the Les Aspin Center for Government’s first local initiative. It was inspired by retired U.S. Congressman Jerry Kleczka’s desire to mentor Wisconsin community leaders and it connects elected officials with highly skilled interns who are eager to learn.
Housed on the Marquette University campus in Milwaukee, interns are drawn from all fields of study and placed in city, county and state legislative offices. Like the successful academic model of the Les Aspin Center for Government, the Kleczka Internship Program combines these hands-on internship experiences with classroom instruction to maximize the learning opportunity.
Students register for this 3-credit internship in the college department in which they wish to receive academic credit. They work with a faculty adviser to ensure that they meet department requirements.
The interns receive a stipend of up to $1,500 from the Kleczka Internship Program. s.
