Is financial aid available for MSHR students?

Marquette University offers scholarship opportunities for graduate students through the Graduate School. A limited number of assistantships also may be available to students pursuing the MSHR degree. Loans, part-time job opportunities, and other forms of financial aid are available through the Office of Student Financial Aid. However, no offer of financial aid can be made until a student has been admitted to Marquette on a regular, degree-seeking basis. Applications are due February 15th for the following fall term.

What areas of human resources are covered in the program?

This program permits one to develop skills and knowledge in such areas as compensation and reward systems, employment and labor law, labor relations, training and development, staffing, benefit administration, human resources information systems, and human resource strategy.

Can I attend part-time?

The MSHR program is designed to meet the logistical needs of working adults who have a bachelor's degree and wish to earn a graduate degree in human resources on a part-time or full-time basis. Classes are available year round. During the fall and spring semesters, almost all classes meet once per week in the early evening, typically from 5:45 p.m. to 8:25 p.m., Monday through Thursday. During summer session, most classes meet two evenings per week.

Students can participate in the MSHR program on a full-time or part-time basis.

Do I have to take an entrance exam?

You need to complete the GMAT or the GRE for admission to the MSHR program. International students must also submit a TOEFL scores.

Is there a student organization?

The Human Resource Management Organization (HRMO) is a student organization at Marquette University which is associated with the Society for Human Resource Management and is sponsored by HRMA.

This organization provides ample opportunities for students to attend presentations by and interact with human resource professionals.

Can I apply to start the program in the spring?

Applications are evaluated as soon as the candidate's admission file is complete. Applicants are informed of the Admission Committee's decision shortly thereafter. Those admitted to the program may begin their studies at the start of any semester during the year.

How long does it take to complete the MSHR program?

Full-time students are encouraged to apply and can complete the program in one to two years, depending on their backgrounds. Completion time for part-time students will vary with their schedules, but completion normally can be accomplished in three to five years.

The Program requires a minimum of 30 semester hours of credit. The required number of credits can be as many as 32 hours if a student has not completed a microeconomics course during undergraduate studies.

I don’t have a background in business or human resources. Can I apply to the MSHR program?

Students from any undergraduate field of study can be accommodated within Marquette's MSHR program and are encouraged to apply.
