The photochemistry of carbenes

In recent studies of CHF, we observed transitions to the hitherto unobserved quasilinear B state.  These transitions are broadened by predissociation to C(3P)+HF or CF(2Π)+H.

The B state transitions display a line broadening which is mode specific.   We are quite excited about this discovery, as the corresponding transition should be accessible in the other halocarbenes, and will give us valuable new insight Into the photochemistry of these important species.

Current work is focused on the modeling the B state spectroscopy and dynamics in collaboration with the Kable and Schmidt groups at the University of Sydney.
