Mark Konewko

Director

Mr. Mark Konewko has been Carillonneur at Marquette since 1999. He will begin as Iterim Chorus Director in fall 2010. He holds an MBA from Cardinal Stritch University as well as a Masters of Music Degree in Organ Performance from the American Conservatory of Music. He studied carillon at the University of Utreckt in Amersfoort and has played worldwide in places such as the Netherlands, Belgium, and France. In addition to being carillonnuer at Marquette, he has an extensive back ground in vocal music and choral conducting, and he teaches courses in music appreciation, business of music, carillon discovery, and electron music. He also serves as Director of Music at Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Parish in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mark

Dan Lappin (President/ Accompanist)
Section: Tenor II
Class: Junior
Interesting Fact: I have memorized pi to 120 digits.
Reason You Joined Choir: I played piano in jazz band in high school, and I wanted to do something different, so I joined Marquette Chorus. Even though I never sang before in high school, everyone was very welcoming and I fit right in.
Why You Love Choir: Marquette Chorus is a fun group! Going to rehearsal is often the highlight of my week. I always enjoy rehearsing and performing music with 100 of my best friends!

Andrea Mitchell (Ombudsperson)
Section:Soprano II
Class: Sophomore
Interesting Fact:I ate Eggo waffles every single morning of middle school.
Reason You Joined Choir: I knew someone else in it and I missed singing the last few years of high school.
Why You Love Choir: The people are great and the singing is a great stress reliever.

Samantha Bestick (Treasurer)
Section:Alto II
Class: Junior
Interesting Fact:I've met Tommy Lee from Motley Crüe. 
Reason You Joined Choir:I joined choir because I have the voice of an angel. 
Why You Love Choir: I love choir because of the good times, good people, good food, and good music.

Ally Gorecki (Tour Coordinator)
Section: Soprano II
Class: Junior
Interesting Fact: I dance as well as choreograph for Dance Inc. Marquette.
Reason You Joined Choir: Choir was my life in high school and I didn't know what I would do without it, so I continued into college.
Why You Love Choir: I love choir because it is more like a family than a group of people who like to sing. I've met all my closet friends through choir.

Grace O'Brien (Tour Coordinator/ Librarian)

Class: Junior
Interesting Fact: I stink at memorizing lyrics, but I know every word to The Goonies.
Reason You Joined Choir:I joined because my mom told me to and I ended up loving it.
Why You Love Choir: I love choir because I get to meet new people and do something I love to do.

Erin Murphy (Concert Coordinator)
Section:Soprano 1
Class: Senior
Interesting Fact: I was afraid of otters as a child.
Reason You Joined Choir: I love to sing.
Why You Love Choir: The people in Choir! I joined Choir to sing, but the hilarious, warm, energetic, down-to-earth people I sing with are the reason I stayed.

Brock Borga (Men’s Property Manager)
Section: Bass I
Class: Senior
Interesting Fact: I can make animals out of cotton candy (no joke - I can make flamingos, elephants, puppies, and swans).
Reason You Joined Choir: I've been playing piano / guitar for a long period of time and I found this as another way to express myself musically.
Why You Love Choir: All the people there in the room are so friendly and fun to be around. The idea of knowing that you all have something you share a passion for equally is really reassuring and helps everyone open up a little more than they would in other classes. The feeling of creating something greater than ourselves and the emotional memories I have from singing / being with all the people from choir. Definitely something I would never change.

Kimmie Vogler (Women’s Property Manager)

Class: Junior
Interesting Fact: It is physically impossible to lick your own elbow; but I can lick my own elbow.
Reason You Joined Choir: I was in choir in high school and I was looking for a similar outlet to express my passion for singing with others that felt the same way.
Why You Love Choir: I’ve gotten to meet so many different people that have the same interests as I do that I would have otherwise never had the opportunity to talk to. Choir really brings people together.

Lisa Betlej (Secretary)
Section: Soprano II
Class: Junior
Interesting Fact: I am a Diamond Dancer for the Milwaukee Brewers.
Reason You Joined Choir: I love performing the large variety of choral repertoire, while developing such a strong and unique bond with the choir members each year.  Plain and simple - choir kids are the best.
Why You Love Choir: Those rare, but unforgettable goose bump moments.

Emily May (Personnel Coordinator)
Section: Soprano II
Class: Senior
Interesting Fact: I was a vegetarian for 6 years.
Reason You Joined Choir: I joined choir because singing is a great escape from the stresses of everyday life!
Why You Love Choir: I love choir because I have met many of my best friends there.  Marquette University Chorus is a really group that works hard to accomplish its goals.

Kyle Hicks (Historian)
Section: Bass I
Class: Junior
Interesting Fact: I have two little nephews who I adore to death.
Reason You Joined Choir: I sang all throughout High School and Middle School and I wanted to continue my passion of singing at Marquette.
Why You Love Choir: I have met all of my best friends in Choir. Plus, this is truly the best class I have ever taken at Marquette.
