Dr. Bell received his D.D.S. from Washington University in 1961.  His General Pathology Residency was at Tuft's University Dental and Medical Schools in Boston.  Dr. Bell completed his Oral and General Pathology residency at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.  After his residentcy, he accepted an appointment as an Assistant Professor of General and Oral Pathology at the University of California in San Francisco.  He was selected as a Special NIH Research Fellow at the University of California in San Diego and Scripps Institution of Oceanography in LaJolla, California.  Dr. Bell joined the faculty at Marquette University in 1974.


Courses

General Pathology, BISC 150

pathology slideThis is a three credit lecture course taught to undergraduates who are majoring in the Biomedical Sciences, Physician Assistant program and, Pre-professional studies. Most of the students in this class are seniors. The course is taught using lecture handouts, website, and Power Point presentations. The emphasis is on the clinical presentation and histopathology of selected diseases. There are five written examinations given during the semester. Kumar's Basic Pathology is the recommended text.

Bulletin Course Description:

The course begins with an overview of cellular degenerations, inflammation and neoplasia. Various organ systems and their primary disease states will then be presented. These systems include musculoskeletal, nervous, cardiovascular, pulmonary, reproductive, digestive, endocrine, and integument. This course is taught using lecture note handouts, websites and examination objectives.

3 semester hours, Spring semester, MWF, 8:00 AM, prerequisites: BISC 015 or consent of instructor.


Biomedical Systems 3 and 4 , BISC 425/426

This is an eight credit lecture and histopathology lab course taught to second year Dental students and select undergraduate students. The overall objectives of this course are to give students a sound basis in general and systems pathology with an emphasis on the clinical presentation of selected diseases and their histopathology features. This course is taught using lecture handouts, websites and Power Point presentation. Assignments are given for readings in Kumar's Basic Pathology for each topic area. The laboratory is a website used to stress important features of selected diseases. There are six written exams given during the semester.

Bulletin Course Description:

This course presents gross and microscopic findings for selected pathology topics. There is an overview of cellular degeneration's, necrosis, inflammation, and neoplasias. Systems pathology is presented with a histopathology lab exercise dealing with diagnosis and cellular changes. Cardiovascular and malignant neoplasias are emphasized , along with risk factors and complications. Other major systemic areas are presented which include pulmonary, digestive, reproductive, endocrine, musculoskeletal, special senses and integument. This is taught using lecture note handouts, slides (PowerPoint), examination objectives, and pathology web sites.
