BISC 4140, Functional Neuroanatomy
BISC 4140 examines the basic structure and function of the central nervous system from spinal cord to cerebral cortex. Material is presented within both clinical and basic contexts. Based on the understanding of the normal circuitry and function of the brain, clinically relevant neurological disorders and basic neuroanatomical methods are also explored. In the second-half of the semester greater emphasis is placed on identifying consequences of brain damage and pathology. A laboratory is also included in this course giving students the opportunity to directly examine human specimens and to better understand the functional relationship with gross anatomical structures.
Prerequisites: BISC 135
