The Department of Biomedical Sciences strives to provide an unparalleled educational experience for undergraduate students pursuing careers in, or related to, health care professions. This is accomplished by offering a curriculum that is comprehensive and challenging in order to prepare students for the rigors of a career in health care professions. Our graduates receive a curriculum rarely offered at the undergraduate level at other colleges and universities:
- An impressive background in human-oriented biomedical science courses such as biochemistry, histology, human microbiology, nutrition, human anatomy, pathology, pharmacology, and human physiology.
- An excellent liberal arts education in the Jesuit tradition through core university courses such as history, philosophy, theology, and english.
- A fundamental understanding of the natural sciences through a wide-variety of courses including biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics.
Our graduates have gone on to professional schools across the country in medicine, dentistry, physician assistant studies, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and law. Other students have advanced to graduate programs in neuroscience, public health, exercise physiology, and health care administration. Still others are presently contributing members of the health care community in positions such as HIV/Aids counseling and research, pharmaceutical marketing, science writing, and health education.
As Chair of the Department, I encourage you to take a moment and explore our website to discover for yourself all that our department has to offer.
Sincerely,
Linda Vaughn, Ph.D.
