Scholarship Opportunities
Graduate School Merit-Based Financial Aid
All students in the M.S. program in Speech Language Pathology are eligible to receive merit-based financial aid from the Marquette University Graduate School. First-year students are awarded both half-time graduate assistantships and tuition scholarships. Second-year students are awarded tuition scholarships. Bilingual Therapies Scholarship
Bilingual Therapies Inc. of Chicago offers a scholarship program to students pursuing the BIES certificate. Recipients of this scholarship receive from Bilingual Therapies Inc. a $2,500 living stipend per semester during their final two semesters of graduate study. This award would be in addition to any merit-based financial aid received from the Marquette University Graduate School.
To apply for the scholarship, students must contact Bilingual Therapies Inc. during their first year of graduate study to arrange for an interview and complete an application. The scholarship recipient must agree to a one-year employment commitment to Bilingual Therapies Inc. upon graduation.
Wisconsin Speech and Hearing Association Otto Scholarship
This memorial scholarship, offered annually by the Wisconsin Speech and Hearing Association, is sponsored by the family and friends of Risa Mari Otto, M.S., CCC-SLP. Risa earned her degree while under treatment for a malignant brain tumor which ultimately caused her death in October 2001. The scholarship of $2,000 is intended to be used for expenses of graduate school education. To apply, the student is required to meet these guidelines:
- Be a student in an accredited graduate program for speech-language pathology in the state of Wisconsin.
- Demonstrate ability in spoken Spanish with a minimum of 20 undergraduate credits in the Spanish language.
- Submit two letters of recommendations, which describe clinical and academic abilities. These letters may be from faculty members or supervisors of practicum.
- Submit a completed application form along with an official transcript of all graduate coursework.
Preference will be given to those students who have acquired Spanish speaking skills and who intend to seek employment in facilities which serve the Hispanic community. More information about the award and forms for applying are available each Fall from Steven Long, Director of Graduate Studies.
