Speech and Swallowing Lab

Marquette University Speech and Swallowing Lab - MUSSL

Our work is focused on developing a better understanding of the articulatory impairments resulting from brain injury in order to improve assessment and treatment techniques for people with speech and swallowing disorders.

Wave System

We are currently conducting accuracy and precision experiments with the NDI - Wave System. The Wave is an electromagnetic tracking system that records movements of small sensors attached to the tongue, lips and jaws.

diphthong2

We are actively recruiting subjects to participate in a study examining the movements of the tongue, lips, and jaws during speech!

If you are 18-35 years old and grew up in the Midwest you can receive $5 for making a brief audio recording in our lab ... if you are chosen as a primary participant, you will be eligible to receive $50.

resynth

We are exploring applied techniques for "resynthesizing" the speech of individuals with motor speech problems. Modified speech samples can be used in speech generating (AAC) devices for people with degenerative motor diseases and may also be useful in speech-rehabilitation for people with non-degenerative speech-motor impairments.
