The week features several days of catechetical sessions and Masses. Pilgrims choose from hundreds of world-renowned speakers on topics such as faith and freedom, social justice, sexuality, prayer, vocations, and inculturation. Afternoons and evenings are filled with youth festival events: venues are open for live music, drama, and other arts. There are opportunities for quiet prayer in Eucharistic adoration chapels.
After these days of catechesis and festival, the final weekend begins with a city-wide stations of the cross on Friday. On Saturday, pilgrims set out from their various host sites to journey to the location of the final outdoor candlelit prayer vigil and Sunday Mass with the pope.
What makes the Marquette University event unique is the Magis portion of the pilgrimage. Magis is an Ignatian program of events for pilgrims from Jesuit institutions that precedes World Youth Day events. Be a part of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to share your faith with millions from around the world!
The next World Youth Day will take place in the summer of 2013 in Rio de Janeiro. This Brazilian city is known throughout the world for its carefree and hospitable population, a place of extraordinary natural beauty, historic monuments and a vibrant cultural life. The theme of World Youth Day 2013 is “Go and make disciples of all nations.” (Matt 28:19)
