Description: IMAP Haiti works in collaboration with Outreach to Haiti, Inc., which has been an established outreach to Haiti for over 25 years. The programs are sponsored by the Diocese of Norwich, Connecticut, the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince, and CRS (Catholic Relief Services). Programs include education, health care, parish twinning opportunities, and community development for Haitians in need. All work for the volunteers comes out of the Norwich Mission House at #7 Rue Lorimer.
Marquette University IMAP guests will be working on a week-long service project for the parish of St. Jude in Morne Opital, Haiti. For more information, click here.
The trip also includes:
Haiti is a developing country with many issues and needs. Its stability as a nation has had some difficulty in the past years, especially since the devastation of the earthquake in 2010. There are inherent risks involved in traveling to Haiti (and to every developing country) that include health and safety. Taking every precaution in preparation for the trip and with the guidance of the Norwich House, IMAP will adjust or cancel any events that would prove to be too unsafe for our students and staff. In August of 2013 a travel warning was issued and remains in effect. This is due to the poor infrastructure and response capacity. To learn more about this warning, click here.
Conduct Policy: Due to the distance and possible challenges found anytime Marquette students venture off campus, Campus Ministry asks that all participants verify that they are not currently nor will be when the trip occurs, on disciplinary probation with the University. Two conduct checks will occur on any students wishing to participate, one before final decisions are made for the trip and the second before leaving for the trip.
