I have fond memories of my journalism classes, especially one taught by Kevin Merida, a reporter for the Milwaukee Journal. Merida was my first teacher of color. Odd that I had to leave my hometown of Philadelphia to be able to say that. Merida was among many at Marquette who infused classes with real-world experience, journalistic integrity and energy. Dean James Scotton also had a profound impact. When he learned I considered transferring, he consulted with Rosemary Petranech to change my mind. Touched, I knew I mattered in the College of Journalism. Iím glad I stayed.
