The timing couldn’t be better for the Class of 1980. Woodward and Bernstein were at their peak, the Warriors captured their first and only NCAA crown, and newspapers were prosperous and numerous. We had classmates whose parents worked for the New York Times and Chicago Tribune, George Reedy in the dean’s office and Ed Pepan on staff. As an assistant news editor at The Marquette Tribune, I pitched a two-part ‘investigative’ series about the Poli Sci department. While the series stopped at two for lack of substance, we all learned something in the process. Funny how that would repeat itself many times over four years.
