I entered the College of Journalism in 1951, in Copus Hall, a Victorian home at 13th Street and Michigan Avenue. On a tripod just inside the door was a large architect’s conception of the new journalism school that soon would be part of the campus. Sixty years later, the journalism school not only does not have a new building, it is right back where it started – in Johnston Hall. There are wonderful stories about Copus Hall and the daily business of producing a weekly newspaper, a yearbook and a quarterly journal, and the wonderful characters who were the denizens of the noble gray home of the ‘J School.’
