As part of the visual communication sequence, this course combines production with design training and the discussion of historical, theoretical, and journalistic considerations of the online medium. The first third of the semester is devoted to a discussion of how the web has affected news presentation; privacy and security; communication models; and community building. The second third is devoted to producing a personal website using Dreamweaver. Depending on your goals and areas of interest, this can take the form of an online resume or a portfolio,. The remainder of the semester is devoted to your client site, in which you chose a client (I encourage a nonprofit or socially engaged client); meet with the client to determine objectives, purpose, and audience; construct content areas and site navigation; produce appropriate graphics to the client’s satisfaction; and produce in Dreamweaver. This Student Gallery offers selected examples of personal sites – resume / portfolio, and client sites – nonprofit / academic / business.
