VISION FOR DEBATE

Debate and discussion play a critical role in many spheres of human activity. From business to government to academia, the wheels that run the world as we know it would grind to a halt without processes of deliberation incorporating various sources of fact and opinion. These processes provide the foundation upon which sound decisions and policies can be based.

It is absolutely critical that young people have the skills to analyze and research issues, construct cohesive and comprehensible cases, present clearly in front of groups and electronic audiences, listen to opposing viewpoints, and defend their ideas while respecting the right to contrary opinions. Debate is a unique activity that effectively develops students in all these areas, imparting the skills to effectively participate in society’s critical deliberative processes.

Knowing the empowering and transformative effect that participation in debate can have at both the high school and college levels, Dave is committed to enhancing the opportunities for students, teachers, and the community to participate in debate and dialogue about important public issues.
