Elections for 2007-08 Officer Positions
May 01, 2007
Each Spring, the Beta Epsilon chapter
of Lambda Pi Eta must elect new officers for the coming academic
year. This year, we have four candidates running for the three
officer positions of chapter President, Vice-President, and
Secretary. Please review each of the candidates statements posted
below.
To vote, simply reply to the e-mail you receive by no later than Thursday, May 3rd at 5p indicating below your top three choices (1st through 3rd) for LPH officers. The candidate that receives the most 1st place votes will become President; the candidate that receives the second most 1st place and 2nd place votes will become Vice president; and the candidate that receives the majority of the remaining votes will become Secretary. Results will be published both on the website and via e-mail. If you have any specific questions for the candidates, please feel free to contact them. This election is open to all current members.
Candidate #1 - Aimee Hardinger - I would like to be an officer for LPH because I believe LPH could potentially be an intricate part of the College of Communication. I would like to do my part in helping LPH achieve the aforementioned status. I believe in what LPH stands for and the goals it puts forth to its members. In short, if elected an officer of LPH, I will do my best to contribute all my assets in assisting to make LPH a premier student organization. Not just for the College of Communication, but for Marquette and the surrounding community as a whole.
Candidate #2 - Brett Higdon - I would like to be an officer for Lambda Pi Eta because I believe there is a lot I can offer to the Beta Epsilon chapter. After having spent a year with LPH, there are definitely areas where we can improve. If I am elected to any officer position, I will work with the other officers and our advisor, Scott D’Urso, to make sure that LPH reaches it’s potential. As an officer, I would like to see improvements in member participation, activities, and recruiting.
As an officer, I will work to get the members of LPH more involved. I noticed throughout this past semester that there was not a strong turnout at the few meetings that were scheduled. Although I realize everyone has busy schedules, I believe everyone who has become a member needs to be involved. If there is no involvement, how can we expect to grow as an organization and make any real changes? In order to get more support and collaboration, I will work with the members of LPH to figure out availability and make meetings accordingly.
I would like to see more activities planned, other than just a bake sale. There are plenty of opportunities in the Milwaukee area for service, but also just to hang out as a group and have fun. To set up more activities will require member’s participation in voicing what kinds of activities they would like to take part in. I feel that if I am an officer, I would be able to help this process along.
A big area that we can improve on is recruiting. Through talking to other members, I came to the conclusion that there simply is not enough information circulating to help draw in more members. If I am elected, I would help to implement plans such as bulletins in Johnston Hall, having advisors talk to advisees about considering LPH, articles in the Marquette Tribune to raise awareness, and even possibly creating a Marketing/Advertising position and even a Public Relations position. The main functions would be to develop ideas to further overall LPH awareness to Communication majors, as well as giving members the change to get some experience of working in an organization that they can use for job interviews.
I am not saying I will be able to do this by myself; in order to make LPH into an organization to proud of will require everyone to work together. I enjoy meeting new people and working with others, and would enjoy the challenge and opportunity to be an officer.
Candidate #3 - Katherine Lee - As an officer for Lambda Pi Eta, I would dedicate myself to furthering the goals of the organization by facilitating group discussions and working to motivate members. I am confident that with the aid of my involvement in Marquette’s communication program I am the perfect candidate to reinforce the actions needed to maintain and further our success. I look forward to serving you and the communication community with the passion and dedication this position deserves.
Candidate #4 - Daniel Plachta - I chose to run for an officer position with Lambda Pi Eta because I want to promote awareness about the group and strengthen its reputation at Marquette and beyond. To achieve this, I would like to develop creative fundraising events and generate opportunities for Communication majors to learn about the importance of their degree and what they can do with it after they graduate. I am optimistic about the direction the group is heading in, and I would like to have the opportunity to keep helping it grow.
