WHY OFFER THE WORKSHOP?

First, some practical considerations: Media outlets in cities throughout the country need reporters and editors to gather and present news to an increasingly diverse audience. Your perspective on culture and society and your interests are valuable in a fiercely competitive world of print, broadcast and online media.

If you like to write, if you like language, if you like to talk to people, if you like to create, you should consider a career in communication. Of course, the workshop is here to help you start on the road to developing the professional skills you'll need to succeed.

To offer this workshop, we get support from Dow Jones Newspaper Fund, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Marquette professors and staff members, along with professionals at the Journal Sentinel, work with you one on one to gather news and produce an online web site.

What's in it for the Diederich College of Communication? Well, many workshop alumni enter the communication program at Marquette and go on to successful careers. For example, James Causey, a 1986 alum, is now an editorial writer at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

So if you're considering a communication career, why not join us? We'll be glad to talk to you.
