Frequently, victims fear that if they approach Public Safety, they will be required to file a report and/or press charges against their assailant. They do not know that they can go to Public Safety to obtain information about resources and that there is a victim advocate who will walk them through their legal options and who will respect their decision if they decide not to file a report. Reporting the assault to Public Safety does not commit the victims to filing state or city charges or pursuing any further legal action.
Many students simply do not know that many options are available to them, such as stay away orders or housing changes.
