The CPFM will foster scientific collaboration across departments at Marquette and throughout the greater Milwaukee area, leading the way in developing the new field of Chemical Proteomics. The CPFM will develop and apply post-genomic technology that:
- increases our understanding of biology (basic science),
- provides social benefits with emphasis on better therapeutics and addressing environmental issues (service),
- and
provides a venue for enhancing the educational experience of undergraduate and graduate students (S3: Science in Service to Society).
The CPFM will be devoted to enabling the structural characterization of protein-ligand interactions in a broad (proteome-wide) manner. The purpose of such studies is to extract maximum value from recently available genomic information. To accomplish this goal and encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, NMR, computational and related resources will be made available to the greater Milwaukee area.
